Sillustani is an archaeological site, located at 34 Km north of Puno (35 minutes by car), on the shores of Lake Umayo. It is famous for its CHULLPAS, which are circular stone towers. We will begin our excursion with brief stops to see the waru-warus, or farming systems, and then continue to visit the Chullpas or funerary towers; the tour guide will show us the most important sectors of the burial site and will give us a good insight into the Andean culture. Each tower would have contained the remains of noble men, buried together with offerings to secure their comfortable passage into the next life. We will be able to enjoy the view of the Umayo Lake and the contrast of these majestic towers with the Altiplano landscape. There is a museum, and handicraft sellers in traditional costume wait at the exit.
